Just Make It Happen (JMH): Is an independent company committed to making low cost films
(between $2-$5 million). JMH was established by Christopher Long, and is based in New York
City.
Under the Influence: Is a story about the struggles of five students in a small midwest town, who
get a new teacher that challenges them. Each student is from a different economic and racial
background but all face problems that exceed their ages and experience. Unfortunately, the
problem that unifies them ends tragically for their new teacher, and tragically for the students and
their families.
"Kids" meet "Crash."
SEEKING:
[ERNESTO] Hispanic, Age 12-14. 5'6-5'9. Ernesto is large for his age. He has already begun to
show signs of puberty, which makes him heroic to the other boys in his grade, He is smart but
has no desire to learn. He would rather shoot tin cans, break glass, watch TV, hit smaller kids,
steal stuff ,or smoke cigarettes than be in 5th grade, because as he gets older the schoolwork is
getting harder. Ernesto is not the warm, loving child his parents would prefer. In fact, they do not
really like Ernesto. As the eldest of 5 children, Ernesto is expected to help around the house
much more than he is comfortable with. If not for having met his new friends this year, Ernesto
would be headed toward a life of petty crime and drug abuse. NY HIRE ONLY. If you submitted
previously please do not re-submit.
[BRIAN] Caucasian, 10-13, interesting looking, Brian is a sociopath with an IQ of 150. His parents
are, as he sees it, 'religious professionals who prey on the confused.' He justifies his own
predatory nature this way. Expertly groomed and particular, Brian has never noticed whether or
not he has friends. He is never lonely and usually prefers his own company to that of others. At
school Brian is regarded as weird, but tolerated for his weirdness because of his high level of
intelligence. Brian has one friend with whom he can let down his guard and not pretend to be like
everyone else. He has only one friend who shares his academic interest in inflicting pain. But this
year at school, Brian has added a few more friends. NY HIRE ONLY. If you submitted
previously please do not re-submit.
[DARRIN] Caucasian, Age 10-12, 5'-5'4. He has an interesting looking face. He is a clown. Darrin
is desperate for attention and approval. His new best friend is Brian. Brian is everything Darrin
wants to be--cool, aloof, spiffy-looking, and smart. Darrin is not yet really interested in girls, but he
pretends to be, which leads to an exaggerated display of immature sexuality. Darin reverts to a
preschool behavior when alone with his mother. He sucks his thumb and tries to nestle in her
arms. It is his way of reversing the effects of repeated rape by his motherís boyfriend. He does
not understand that he is neither to blame for being abused sexually nor is his mother at fault for
the treatment she receives at the hands of her boyfriend. When beyond the protection of his
mother, Darrin finds comfort in torturing small animals and burning things. NY HIRE ONLY. If you
submitted previously please do not re-submit.

STORYLINE: ROCKSTEADY is a coming of age story set against the world of dirt track stock car
racing in rural New York. It follows a young man's journey over the course of a racing season, but
more importantly of self-discovery and growth. Set to a reggae soundtrack, the story is filled with
humor, poignancy, subtle racial tension, intrigue and plenty of racing action.
SEEKING:
[BC COOK] (early 20s, African-American) is the son of a local racer who died tragically 10 years
earlier in a mining accident, leaving him and his mom to fend for themselves. Once a talented gokart
racer, BC now spends his time carelessly tending to his father's garage while engaging in
street races and other reckless activities. His life has spun into slacking and illegal prescription
drug running out of Canada in order to supplement the meager income he makes tending to his
fatherís old garage. He is also mistrusting of all but his inner circle and determined to find
opportunity outside of the perceived dead-end town. His best friend, Rudy, is both good and bad
news: there is nobody more loyal, but there is nobody more out of control. For all the excitement
they have together, itís getting BC nowhere. He also has Faith. She is gorgeous, street smart and
clearly loves him, but is concerned by his wild side and irresponsible ways. When BC and Rudy
are arrested for a 3rd time after street racing, a deal is struck that allows him one last chance,
working for a local businessman who has agreed to keep and eye on him. That job provides
proximity to the racing world and ultimately puts BC back in action. As he progresses on the
track, he also learns about his community and how to embrace his responsibilities as a young
man. LEAD
[RUDY] Caucasian, early 20s, full of wild energy. He is BCís best friend for life, a wild card who
knows the ins and outs of cars and engines. However, his love of freaky danger is what fuels his
imagination for get rich schemes like running generic pharmaceuticals out of Canada and
manipulating electrical meters. When heís not functioning at a hundred miles per hour, he prefers
slacking off and getting high. But make no mistake, he loves his buddy, BC, and will do
everything he can to protect him, and help him find a life of happiness. LEAD
[FAITH] Caucasian, early 20s, a drop-dead gorgeous blonde or red-head. She comes from the
better side of the tracks and, although she has serious reservations, her heart belongs to BC. A
talented photographer and compassionate local volunteer, she plans to attend art school in the
fall, despite her fatherís protestations that she pursue law school locally. But when the chance for
BC to get into the racing game comes around, Faith has no hesitation in doing everything she can
to help him towards that goal, as long as he is willing to commit 100%. She believes in him
enough for the both of them. LEAD

SYNOPSIS: TIME AFTER TIME is a musical thriller based on Karl Alexander's novel (which
inspired the 1979 film version starring Malcolm McDowell, Mary Steenburgen and David Warner).
It takes a dark twist on Well's famous "Time Machine" storyline by bringing H.G. Wells and a notso-
friendly fellow named Jack the Ripper into the 21st Century. The show pits the "Utopian" view
of progressive scientists like H.G. Wells, who believed technology would cure all mankind's ills,
with the brutal outlook of a killer like Jack the Ripper, who considered himself a monster in own
time, but an amateur in today's violent world. Jack and H.G. meet their other-halves in two very
21st century women -- Amy and Carol -- who show us that despite the violence and destruction
we face every day, the only thing mankind has to hold on to, the only thing that makes living
bearable in terrible times, is love.
MANY ENSEMBLE ACTOR/SINGERS HAVE SMALL ROLES.
SEEKING:
[H.G. WELLS] Late 20s/Early 30s. Circa 1895; LEAD; Bari-tenor; "The Father of Science Fiction"
(i.e., "The Time Machine," "War Of The Worlds," "The Invisible Man"). Via a "time machine" he
finds himself in contemporary NYC chasing "Jack the Ripper"; a splendid COMIC role, but also
terribly sweet and sincere; funny, charming, quirky, and likable; a genuine Renaissance man,
passionate about science, education, politics, history, sociology ... but, also a bit of a nebbish ñ a
nerd of the Victorian era.

Synopsis: How did George Eliotís love life affect her prose? Why did Kafka write at three in the
morning? In what ways is Barack Obama like Eliza Doolittle? Can you be over-dressed for the
Oscars? What is Italian Feminism? If Roland Barthes killed the Author, can Nabokov revive him?
What does ësoulfulí mean? Is Date Movie the worst film ever made? Split into five sections ñ
ëReadingí, ëBeingí, ëSeeingí, ëFeelingí and ëRememberingí ñ Changing My Mind finds Zadie
Smith casting an acute eye over material both personal and cultural. This engaging collection of
essays ñ some published here for the first time ñ reveals Smith as a passionate and precise
essayist, equally at home in the world of great books and bad movies, family and philosophy,
British comedians and Italian divas. Whether writing of Obama, Katherine Hepburn, Kafka, Anna
Magnani or David Foster Wallace, she brings a practitionerís care to the art of criticism, with a
style as sympathetic as it is insightful. Changing My Mind is journalism at its most expansive,
intelligent and funny ñ a gift to readers and writers both. Within its covers an essay is more than a
column of opinions: itís a space in which to think freely.
